Spicy Tofu

Spicy Tofu

  • 1 Block firm Tofu ( 14 oz)
  • Salt & Pepper to taste ( To season the tofu)

For the sauce

    • Chili powder - 1 1/2 tsp 
    • Paprika- 1 tsp
    • Salt - 1 tsp 
    • Soy Sauce- 2 tbsp
    • Maple syrup- 1 tbsp 
    • Ginger powder - 1/2 tsp  
    • Water- 1/4 cup
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil 
  • 4 cloves garlic- 
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1 cup onion

Drain all the water from the tofu. Press it with paper towel to squeeze out as much as water.

Cut into small bite size pieces. Press the cut tofu gently with a paper towel to squeeze any additional water. At this time seasoned the tofu with salt and pepper. 

Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add in the tofu. Let it fry for 5-8 minutes. 

At this point you can see a golden color on the bottom of the tofu. Now flip it other side and fry for 5-8 minutes or until golden color on the edges. Set aside. 

Meanwhile prepare the sauce. Add in all the spices listed under the sauce, add water and mix everything well. 

It’s also time to prepare the rest of the ingredients. Chop garlic, onion and bell pepper into small pieces. 

Now let’s assemble everything. Heat sesame oil. Add in the chopped garlic, onion and bell pepper. Sauté until aromatic, onion should be lightly golden color. 

Add in the previously prepared sauce. Heat the sauce until you see bubbles and reduce in size.

Once the sauce starts to thicken, add in the tofu.

Mix everything gently to combine the sauce and tofu. Sauté for few minutes and take off the heat.

Optional- Sprinkle with chopped green onion or sesame seeds.
