Pizza Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 packet of active dry yeast
  • 2 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Olive oil
  • Toppings
  • Pizza sauce 
    • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
    • 1/4 teaspoon olive oil
    • Few fresh basil leaves
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  • Whisk the warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar together in a medium size bowl
  • Cover and let it rest for 5 minutes. 
  • Add 2 cups of flour and salt to the same bowl and mix with a spatula.
  • Lightly mix in the bowl until flour combine. Add 1/4 cup of additional flour on top and transfer to a well floured surface.
  • Now knead the dough for 5 minutes. It will start to stick. ( Gather all the flour, press with hand, continue do this)
  • Now let the sticky dough rest for 15 minutes.
  • Apply olive oil into both palms, lift and fold the dough few times until nice smooth ball form. This method is called coil folding. 
  • Coil Folding- gently lift the dough with both hands from the middle until one end releases from the surface. 
  • Gently lower the dough to allow the loosened end to tuck under the middle, and repeat with the other side.
  • Repeat this process until the dough does not stretch very far anymore, and holds its shape like a bowl. 
  • Apply oil into a clean bowl and let the dough rest in warm place for 30-40 minutes, cover with a cloth. 
  • Dough should be double in size
  • Punch the dough down gently. Apply olive oil on top and cut into 4 equal parts.  For two medium size pizza, cut the dough into two pieces.
  • Now prepare each piece into a round shape. Fold outside down and tuck under.
  • Apply bit of oil on top and cover with a cloth. Rest for 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile preheat the oven to 450f.
  • Mix all the ingredients in the pizza sauce and set aside. Break the basil leaves in half and add to the sauce.
  • Shape each ball. To do this gently pick one piece without deflating the air.
  • Press from the middle and push the air out to the edges. 
  • Continue pressing from the middle. 
  • Now press from one hand, pull from the other hand and lift. Make sure not to deflate any bubbles on the edge. 
  • If the dough start to stick while shaping, add little flour on the top or bottom. 
  • For heart shape pizza, refer to the video. 
  • Now transfer to a pizza pan. I used back of a baking sheet to bake as it provides equal heat when baking. Add some corn meal, almond flour or any other corse flour on the pan and transfer the pizza on top. 
  • Apply the prepared sauce generously. 
  • Top with dairy free cheese. I use provolone and pepper jack.
  • I also used sliced mushrooms, onion, and chili pepper. 
  • Top off with more fresh basil. 
  • Top off with dairy free colby jack cheese. 
  • Apply oil on the edge of the pizza. Sprinkle with garlic power.
  • Bake for 15 minutes.
  • Enjoy
